Positive Discipline: Preparing The Ground

Image
To ensure the class ran smoothly and everyone felt comfortable, safe, heard, and valued, the teacher used to brainstorm the agreements at the beginning of the semester. During the process, it is important to review the agreement repeatedly.  www.amaly.com At the start of the second semester, we were all eagerly anticipating the new journey ahead. Our first order was to revisit the class agreements we had established earlier and evaluate how well we were adhering to them. To our surprise, the students openly shared their thoughts and feelings about the agreements. The discussion flowed naturally, with everyone sharing their own unique experiences and viewpoints on the matter. During a recent discussion in class, students expressed their concerns about the effectiveness of some points within our classroom agreement that was made last semester. As the teacher, I facilitated a discussion where all students had the opportunity to share their thoughts and opinions. This allowed f...

We Are Not Alone :D

Image
Both videos (Jane Nelson’s discussion and Ms Mahrukh’s intro video) have demonstrated that implementing positive discipline requires a collective effort. This indicates that many educators are facing similar challenges, fostering a sense of unity among those dedicated to the principles of positive discipline. By learning about the different strategies and approaches used by other educators, we can confirm our efforts and draw inspiration from a diverse range of ideas. Although transforming the existing culture and system may seem daunting, the videos emphasize that consistent practice and thoughtful reflection can help us overcome these challenges. The integration of positive discipline, along with regular moments of introspection, becomes a powerful tool for acquiring valuable insights and fostering continuous improvement. This constant process establishes a cyclical pattern that involves action, reflection, evaluation, and subsequent action, reinforcing the notion that growth i...

The Reflection of Tina Blythe's Story and Metaphor

Image
I  came across a story and a metaphor by Tina Blythe that resonated with me, and I believe it would also resonate with most teachers. As teachers, we used to seek new resources, discussing with our peers, and reading books to improve our professional development and satisfy our thirst for knowledge. However, we often feel disappointed as we cannot find the perfect resources that meet our expectations. https://www.vecteezy.com/ Tina's story opened my mind that the perfect resources does not exist. There are countless resources available, and the key is to extract the art from them and incorporate it into our work. We are the ones who make it nearly perfect by adapting and reshaping the resources to suit our needs. Finally, I will keep this metaphor in mind. I know. It is impossible to consume all the resources available and consider them all useful. Instead, I will use them as ingredients in my recipe to create a delicious dish. I no longer want to be just a consumer. I want to be a...

Refleksi Guru Belajar

Pembelajaran Berdiferensiasi Sebagai Keniscayaan

Image

Refleksi Terhadap Pemikiran Ki Hajar Dewantara (KHD)

Image

Reading Time

Image
As like last semester, this semester we have reading program in every week. Usually, after reading students will write a reading log in their book.  This is a new program established this academic year. In the first semester we found some obstacles in order to make this program run well. But... This semester is preety much better. Moreover my students also like it very much. They are waiting the reading time. Every time I enter the class and bring the books. They are so happy. I saw diamonds in their eyes. This semester, I am still teaching grade one and grade four. I used to do storytelling in the beginning of the lesson for grade one. They are really enjoy and want to listen the story. Right after listening a story telling, they will go directly to find the book for reading.  On the other hand , reading time in grade four is also amazing. Just few of them don't like reading, but most of them are waiting for reading time. Because of only few of them don't like reading, a...
